Teaching

James Nash has performed onstage with Joan Osborne, Elvis Costello, Bela Fleck, Bob Weir, Emmylou Harris, Susan Tedeschi, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Chattanooga Symphony. His primary project The Waybacks has performed at The Kennedy Center, The Old Town School of Music in Chicago, The Ryman Auditorium, The Warfield, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Bumbershoot, The Edmonton Folk Festival, and the Australian National Folk Festival.

In addition to performing and recording, James enjoys leading instructional clinics and classes for advanced players. His instructional DVD "Making The Acoustic Guitar Rock" is available on Homespun, and he is a regular contributor to "Guitar Player" and "Acoustic Guitar" magazines. James has served as an artist judge at events such as the National Flatpicking Championship, The Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, and the Guitar Fest Acoustic Guitar and Singer-Songwriter Competitions.

James is also a youth baseball and basketball coach. In 2015 he was honored by the San Francisco Giants with a "Willie Mac" coaching award for his work with boys and girls in the "Junior Giants" program. In 2021, he was named "Coach Of The Year" by San Francisco Little League, where he currently serves on the board as Director of Coach Training & Education.

Raised in Nashville, James began his musical journey studying violin at the Blair School of Music, and learning the "inside baseball" of guitar playing from a renowned "Music Row" session musician. James has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
